Cookie notice
The short version
This website sets no cookies of its own. One entry is written to your browser's local storage to remember how you answered the cookie notice, so that it is not shown again on every page. An advertising measurement pixel on content pages may set its own identifiers; that is described below.
Declining non-essential technology does not restrict anything on this website. Every article is readable in full either way, and nothing is held back behind a choice.
What is stored
| Name | Set by | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
lp-cookie-choice |
This website | Strictly necessary | Remembers whether you accepted or declined non-essential measurement. | Until browser storage is cleared |
Outbrain identifiers (obuid and similar) |
Outbrain (amplify.outbrain.com) | Advertising measurement | Records that a visit followed a paid content recommendation placement, so campaign performance can be measured. | Set and managed by Outbrain; see its own privacy information |
Names and durations of third-party entries are set by the third party and can change without notice to us. The authoritative list for your own browser is in its developer or privacy settings.
An honest note about timing
The measurement pixel loads together with the page, which means it runs before you answer the notice. Declining stops further measurement from that point, but it does not undo the initial request. We would rather say so than publish a claim the page does not keep.
The pixel is not present on this page, nor on the imprint, privacy, terms, contact or newsletter confirmation pages.
Strictly necessary, and what that means here
"Strictly necessary" is a narrow category, and we are not using it loosely. The single entry we write is
there only so that answering the notice has an effect. It contains the word accept or
decline and nothing else — no identifier, no visit history, no reference to any article you
have read.
Changing or withdrawing your choice
Clearing site data for this domain in your browser removes the stored choice, and the notice will appear again on your next visit. The route differs by browser:
- Chrome and Edge: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data → See all site data and permissions.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data.
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
Browser-level tracking protection and ad blockers will also prevent third-party measurement technology from loading, on this website as on any other.
Questions
Questions about what is stored, or requests relating to your data, can be sent to [email protected]. The operator's full details are in the imprint.
